THE “MAJESTIC” THEATER DEFINITION

The theatre is a very ancient form of art, which had its foundation in ancient Greece. Its polyvalent and creative nature develops through all communication forms; speech, gestures, music, dance, and sound convey the spectator’s different reality ways.

The oldest forms of theatre are the Greek Tragedy and Comedy, but new forms of expression have emerged that are considered theatrical genres over time.

Here is a brief introduction of each genre:

THE GREEK TRAGEDY

THE GREEK TRAGEDY

The Greek Tragedy was born around the sixth century in ancient Greece and its origins by the god Dionysus cult.

This genre moves on serious issues. The protagonists are forced to face the fatal consequences of their mistakes, often staining themselves with Ubris and attracting the gods’ wrath upon themselves.

Tragedies characteristic was by a dramatic ending that included the death of the characters. The most outstanding exponents of this genre were:

  • Aeschylus, who use to narrate men/heroes’ events, always ending with divine justice.
  • Sophocles described the man in a continuous struggle with fate, always afflicted by an existential malaise.
  • Euripides uses to emphasizes humanity and the passions of the protagonists.

The Greek Tragedy has been rediscovered and revisited in modern time in different forms by many other authors;

THE COMEDY

THE COMEDY

It was born in ancient Greece around the sixth century as a comic theatrical representation.

One of the leading exponents of old comedy is Aristophanes, who, in composing his works, followed an autonomous structure and always introduced the same constituent elements:

  • The background
  • The pause with the choir
  • The ending in favor of the protagonist.
  • Historians distinguished three ages of comedy in Greece:
  • The Ancient comedy developed from the sixth to the fourth century BC.
  • The middle comedy developed just before the Hellenistic age in 323 BC.
  • The New comedy of Hellenism.

Today this genre has kept its distinctive features touch light themes and are always a happy ending. It tells about the daily difficulties by highlighting the personalities’ characters with their weaknesses and insecurities, always aiming to arouse a good laugh in the audience.

Comedy is currently a fiction genre that refers to any work that intends to be humorous by communicating laughter, especially in theatretelevisionfilmstand-up comedy, books, or other entertainment mediums.

THE OPERA

THE OPERA

The Opera or melodrama is a theatrical genre based on music and opera singing. It was born as a genre in the Middle Ages but established itself more decisively at the end of the 1500s, thanks to a group of Florentine nobles, “The Camerata Fiorentina.”

There were many lines of argument followed by the various authors, who initially staged mythological and then historical themes, and for this reason, it could be defined in several ways:

  • Romantic Opera
The primary authors were Bellini, Verdi, Donizetti, between the 14th and 20th centuries.
  • Opera or Melodrama
The primary authors were Verdi and Wagner between the 16th and 17th centuries.
  • Opera Buffa
The primary authors were Rossini, Mozart, Pergolesi from the first half of the 18th century.
  • Opera Seria
The primary authors were Rossini and Hendel in the 18th century.
  • Opera Verista
The primary author was Mascagni in the 19th century.
THE COMMEDIA DELL'ARTE

THE COMMEDIA DELL’ARTE

It is a typical genre of the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, distinguished from the comedy by the necessary lines, like the canvas, which was only a general line of what was to be staged and did not contain all the show’s details.

  • The first hint of “Commedia dell’Arte” is made by Goldoni, in his work “Teatro Comico” in 1750.
  • The main feature of this genre was, first of all, improvisation.

Like Arlecchino, Pulcinella, Colombina, Brighella, and others based on the so-called “scenarios” had complete freedom to interpret the roles.

THE MUSICAL

THE MUSICAL

The Musical is a type of show that involves singing, acting, and dancing.

This genre was born in the USA around 1860, from two companies’ unions, one for prose and song and dance.

It was very successful because it conquered the entire audience of foreigners, emigrants to the USA, who, although not knowing the language, could understand history thanks to this genre’s structure and style.

Starting from New York and Broadway, the “new art” spread throughout Europe, especially London, which became its capital. It is still highly appreciated by the public today, and many soundtrack and characters are trendy.

THE THEATER OF THE ABSURD

THE THEATRE OF THE ABSURD

This genre developed from the 1940s to the 1960s, and it was named after a 1961 publication by Martin Esslin.

The main features are the illogic and irrationality of the events that no longer follow one another. The plot develops consecutively but arises from sensations, moods, or simple impressions.

The scenes are sometimes totally static, and the characters get lost in senseless ruminations, absurd and occasionally repetitive dialogues that in the tragic situation still make people smile.

OUR CONCEPT

OUR CONCEPT

Our concept explores another genre based on historical documentaries that aim to tell the fact happened. It builds a chronological storyline that spans from a point in history to another but sometimes uses absurd or dementia metaphors to make it lighter and joyful.

Since the spectators will enjoy other features as the Sit-Down dinner and the Dance music, we intend to put the storyline at the centre of the experience. Thus the performance must be the first feature to be developed, and any other subject will be connected and adapted to it.

Based on the audience response, we will be open to some adjustments without changing our brandmark.

This Blog aims to promote our Immersive Historical Experiences.
